Description

Beautiful Seiko LM Lord Matic Special 5216-7040 from July 1974, fitted with a high range 5216 automatic movement beating at 28,800 bph, with stop second and manual winding feature.
The overall condition of this watch is good with light wear on the case. The magnificient blue dial is flawless, as are the hands. The days can be displayed in English or in japanese Kanji.
The movement has been serviced and is holding good time (+/- 10 s/d). The day and date quickset is working. The 52xx calibre family is one of the best ever made by Seiko according to me, it led by the way to the much more recent 4S15 movement.

The glass crystal is new. Finally, the watch comes with a gorgeous stainless steel bracelet with a Seiko LM signed clasp.

Vintage watch with unknown history but serviced (06/2022) checked and cleaned. Water resistance non tested.

The range

The Lord Matic, or LM range was introduced by Seiko in 1968. It was a middle range of automatic movement watches, with the hacking second and the manual winding feature. All had a stainless steel case and bracelet, most of them had a glass crystal.
The range called Lord Matic Special, fitted with the 5206 & 5216 movements has been introduced a couple of years later.

The range was discontinued in ca 1975, the automatic middle range watches being partly abandonned to the profit of the quartz.

The brand

Introducing Seiko would be useless, it is the most important manufacturer in the world. Founded 120 years ago, it really begun to be a leader in the 60’s/70’s thanks to their automatic watches and of course with their quartz models.
Seiko invented many concepts (analogic and LCD quartz, Kinetic watches, Spring Drive, etc) and marketed all sorts of designs. Its range of watches is incredibly wide, answering almost all budget, design or quality questions.
