<\/p>\n\n\n\n

King Seiko et plus tard Seiko KS \u00e9taient la gamme de montres automatiques haut de gamme introduite par Seiko Daini au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 60. Les premiers mod\u00e8les, et jusqu'en 1968, avaient des mouvements \u00e0 remontage manuel, le Seikosha 54 vu dans les Cronos et certaines premi\u00e8res Champion Calendar et plus tard, les calibres 44 et 45. La premi\u00e8re King \u00e9quip\u00e9e d'un mouvement automatique a \u00e9t\u00e9 lanc\u00e9e en 1968, avec le nouveau mouvement 56xx<\/strong><\/strong> d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 par Suwa. Quelques ann\u00e9es plus tard, une gamme parall\u00e8le a \u00e9t\u00e9 introduite, la KS Special, bas\u00e9e sur le mouvement Daini 52xx. Ce couple KS\/KS Special est similaire au couple LM\/LM Special. Ils vivront ensemble pendant environ 5 ans, jusqu'\u00e0 ce que Seiko abandonne la gamme King. Dans les ann\u00e9es 70, et en plus des mod\u00e8les KS de conception classique, Seiko a propos\u00e9 la gamme excentrique KS Vanac\/Vanac Special avec les m\u00eames calibres.<\/strong> Tous ces mod\u00e8les automatiques avaient des mouvements \"Hi-Beat\" 28 800 A\/h.<\/strong>

Les premi\u00e8res ann\u00e9es (1961-1963)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

La premi\u00e8re King fut lanc\u00e9e en 1961 par Suwa et rempla\u00e7a en grande partie la gamme Cronos. Elle partageait le m\u00eame mouvement Seikosha 54 et introduisait le mouvement 44 (une \u00e9volution du 54). Ces mod\u00e8les sont rares aujourd'hui et il est assez difficile d'en trouver un. On la reconna\u00eet \u00e0 la mention \u00ab King Seiko \u00bb inscrite sur la moiti\u00e9 sup\u00e9rieure du cadran, sous l'index des 12 heures.

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La Seiko 44KS (1964-1968)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

En 1964, Seiko relance la gamme et la base sur le mouvement Seiko 44xx (44, 4402, 4420). Aujourd'hui, la 44KS est la gamme la plus appr\u00e9ci\u00e9e des passionn\u00e9s de Seiko. La 44KS a \u00e9t\u00e9 propos\u00e9e jusqu'en 1968, date \u00e0 laquelle Seiko a lanc\u00e9 la KS automatique. Ils ont cependant conserv\u00e9 un mod\u00e8le KS \u00e0 remontage manuel dans leur catalogue, la 45KS

La Seiko 45KS (1968-1973)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

En 1968, lorsque Seiko relance pour la deuxi\u00e8me fois sa gamme King, elle choisit de conserver un mod\u00e8le \u00e0 remontage manuel, bas\u00e9 sur le mouvement 45\/4502. Le design de cette famille 45KS est similaire \u00e0 celui de la famille 56KS\/Lord Matic, alors tr\u00e8s populaire. Certains mod\u00e8les portent la mention \u00ab Superior Chronometer officially verified \u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La Seiko 56KS (1968-1975)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

La famille 56xx est une large et c\u00e9l\u00e8bre gamme de mouvements automatiques, qui \u00e9quipent \u00e9galement les Lord Matic (5601, 5605, 5606), les King (5621, 5625, 5626) et les Grand Seiko (5641, 5645, 5646). La polyvalence de ce calibre, sa finesse, ont conduit \u00e0 une plus grande diversit\u00e9 des mod\u00e8les King : configuration heure seule, date ou jour & date. En 1968, Seiko d\u00e9cide de donner plus de coh\u00e9rence \u00e0 sa production en partageant non seulement la m\u00eame famille de mouvements pour ses montres de milieu et haut de gamme mais aussi pour certains bo\u00eetiers. On peut imaginer que cela ait \u00e9t\u00e9 fait pour augmenter la rentabilit\u00e9 de leurs activit\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La King 56KS est la Seiko King la plus r\u00e9pandue ; des centaines de milliers d'exemplaires ont probablement \u00e9t\u00e9 vendus entre 1968 et 1975. On peut sans doute diviser ces huit ann\u00e9es de production en trois p\u00e9riodes distinctes\u00a0:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1968-1971<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

La plupart des bo\u00eetiers sont monoblocs\u00a0; le mouvement est accessible par l\u2019avant en retirant la lunette et le verre, ce dernier \u00e9tant coll\u00e9 sur un insert. Un m\u00e9daillon dor\u00e9 orne le fond. La couronne est sign\u00e9e KS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

1972-1973<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Le fond viss\u00e9 devient la norme, le m\u00e9daillon dor\u00e9 dispara\u00eet et est remplac\u00e9 par un \u201c KS \u201d grav\u00e9. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

1974-1975<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Le sigle KS a disparu du dos et de la couronne (mod\u00e8les 8000, 8001, 8011 mais pas des mod\u00e8les 7113 et 7121). Le verre n'est plus coll\u00e9 mais serti dans la lunette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pendant une courte p\u00e9riode, certains mod\u00e8les portaient la mention \u201c Chronom\u00e8tre officiellement certifi\u00e9 \u201d sur leur cadran (vers 1969-1971).<\/p>\n\n\n\n


<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La Seiko 52KS (1970-1975)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Comme je l'ai \u00e9crit pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment, la manufacture Daini a lanc\u00e9 sa propre gamme KS vers 1970, avec les mouvements 5245, 5246 et 5256. Ce calibre est plus sophistiqu\u00e9 que le 56xx, avec un changement de jour et de date instantan\u00e9 \u00e0 minuit (ce qui n'est pas le cas du 5256). Le r\u00e9glage rapide n'est pas non plus affect\u00e9 par la faiblesse de la roue en plastique du 56xx, puisqu'elle est en m\u00e9tal.
Le design des 52KS est assez classique \u00e9galement mais avec quelque chose de plus typique des ann\u00e9es 70.
De mani\u00e8re g\u00e9n\u00e9rale, le 52KS est beaucoup plus rare que le 56KS. Certains mod\u00e8les \u00e9taient "Chronom\u00e8tre officiellement certifi\u00e9", comme pour la 56KS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le cas Vanac (1970-1975)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Vers 1970, suivant la tendance des ann\u00e9es 70, Seiko a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 produire des mod\u00e8les KS plus d\u00e9contract\u00e9s et les a baptis\u00e9s \"Vanac\". Je n'ai trouv\u00e9 aucune explication sur ce nom. La gamme Vanac \u00e9tait disponible avec les mouvements 56xx et 52xx (Vanac Special). Ils avaient presque tous un design sp\u00e9cial et tous avaient des bracelets en acier inoxydable. Les cadrans peuvent \u00eatre verts, bleus, marron, violets, etc. Les verres \u00e9taient souvent facett\u00e9s, avec des motifs diff\u00e9rents \u00e9galement. Enfin, les bo\u00eetiers pouvaient \u00eatre carr\u00e9s, ovales, rectangles\u2026 Ces mod\u00e8les \u00e9taient en fait assez proches de certaines Seiko Lord Matic mais avec un meilleur mouvement.

Successeurs, r\u00e9\u00e9dition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

En 1975, lorsque Seiko d\u00e9cide d'arr\u00eater la production de sa King, elle d\u00e9cide \u00e9galement d'arr\u00eater la production de montres m\u00e9caniques haut de gamme pour se concentrer sur le quartz et sur des mod\u00e8les automatiques moins chers (Seiko 5, Seiko 7009, 6309, etc...). Ainsi, ce fut la fin du Roi, il resta sans h\u00e9ritier.

En fait, ce n'\u00e9tait pas une fin d\u00e9finitive puisque Seiko a produit pour la premi\u00e8re fois en 2000 un lot de 2 000 Seiko KS \u00e9quip\u00e9es du mouvement 4s15 (qui est bas\u00e9 sur le 52xx !). Puis, en 2021, pour le 175e anniversaire de l'entreprise, Seiko a reproduit un lot de 3 000 King Seiko "KSK" bas\u00e9 sur le mod\u00e8le 44KS de 1965, \u00e9quip\u00e9 du mouvement 6L35.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enfin, et suivant une tendance g\u00e9n\u00e9rale dans l'horlogerie, Seiko a relanc\u00e9 en 2022 une gamme compl\u00e8te de King Seiko. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
