The Cosmic has been introduced in 1966 to offer a more trendy looking range of watches, based on the straight Seamaster. They housed the robust 500 family movements (automatic and hand-wound). The cases were all of monobloc type, the calibre must be extracted by the front thanks to a split stem. The dials weren’t so numerous, a same dial can be found in different cases.
The Seamaster Cosmic has become quite popular and its value rose in these last years. They remain however more affordable than a standard Seamaster.

The design
Cases
The number of available cases is quite limited and most of the models had tonneau shaped cases, with some exceptions (cushion and oval shaped) and all were monobloc. There diametre were quite small, from 34 to 36 mm. The crown is always Omega signed and there is always a split stem to make the extraction of the movement by the front possible. The cases were made of stainless steel or were gold plated.
Dials and hands
The design of the dials are quite classical, with the Omega logo at 12 and the Seamaster logo at 6. The colours of the dials were standard as well, silver, champagne, grey, black or two-toned. The hand were mostly standard pencils that were found on many Omega of that era. Some rarer versions have dauphine hands.
Bracelets / bands
Most models were equipped with a black leather band but stainless steel bracelets were also available with an Omega signed clasp (was it an option ?).
The movements
All movements available belong to the 500 family : 601 (hand-wound, time-only), 613 (hand-wound, date), 552 (automatic, time-only), 565 (automatic, date) and 752 (automatic, day & date).
The automatic versions are much more common than the hand-wound ones.
These calibres are very robust and reliable. Even if they are in theory not performant (they all beat at 19,800 bph), they run very steadily. They are easy to service as well. The most common issue is linked to the day display on the 752, which is sometimes jammed.

Successor
In 1972, the Cosmic evolved into the Cosmic 2000, based on the newly developped 1000 series movements.
