What is Watch & Vintage ?
Watch & Vintage is an french individual company proposing mostly vintage restored watches but also more recent second hand models. I, David Broglin, am the owner and manager of the company. I manage the whole chain from the acquisiton of a watch to its sale : the restoration itself, the replacement of parts, the cleaning of the movement, taking pictures, putting the watch on line, managing the website which I created, shipping the orders and following the after sales.
Are the watches genuine ?
The watches that I resell are generally known models which are well documented. My goal is always to propose a watch that is as close as possible as it was when it was new, including the steel bracelet. If we take the example of Seiko, almost all vintage catalogues can be found online and it is easy to compare the elements of a model. Moreover, counterfeit watches are often copies of expensive and more recent models, for obvious economic reasons.
The issues we can come across with older watches are so called aftermarket parts like hands, dials, inner/outer bezels or parts that don’t match the model that have been fitted on them. That is particularly true with popular ranges as chronographs or diver’s watches. Another quite common modification seen on vintage models are repainted dials. Sometimes it’s very well done, so you have to be very careful about it. If you see a coloured dial on a watch that is supposed to have been produced in the 60s, it’s surely not original. At that time, a watch was a serious tool, without any fantasy, so the dials were white, black, champagne, golden or silver and that’s all. It’s only in the late 60s that the manufacturers began to propose watches with more original designs.
In which countries do you ship ?
I will ship everywhere in the world except “complicated” destinations affected by wars, where courrier services are failing or ruled by dictatorial regimes.
Be aware that I am located in France and that you will have to pay your local VAT and/or custom fees if you live outside the European Union. That applies for UK, Switzerland and Norway for example.
How are the watches sent ?
They are sold either on a small pillow in a wooden box or in a faux leather roll case and put in a cardboard box with protective filling material.
The courriers that I use are Colissimo / Colissimo International or DHL for the EU (optional, more expensive). I always pay for an ad valorem insurance and the parcel will be signed for delivery (mandatory). Problems are very seldom but if a parcel gets lost or damaged, the few more euros you have to pay for the insurance will allow a full compensation.
What is a serviced watch ?
The service of a watch consists in fully disassembling the movement, cleaning all parts, oiling the points that recquire it and reassembling the whole calibre. Of course, if a part is broken, I will replace it.
Once the movement has been serviced, it has to be tuned to keep time well. Usually, a serviced vintage watch shouldn’t drift more than 20 seconds a day, preferably gaining them. The service can as well include the surface polishing of the case and the acrylic crystal, the replacement of the crystal, whether it’s made of plastic or glass.
Are the watches guaranteed ?
Yes, all watches have a 1 year guarantee that can be extended to 2 years (optional with additional cost)
What happens if I have a problem with the watch I recently acquired on Watch & Vintage’s website ?
Unfortunately, problems occur with vintage watches, even though I service them. I make all usual and standard tests before putting a watch on sale but it can happen that I missed something or that something happens after a while wearing the watch. Despite all my efforts, I still sometimes have to take a watch back for a complete check. That’s why all the watches I sell have a 1 year guarantee, so everyone is reassured (including me !).
I saw your watches on several platforms, why are the prices different ?
I sell my watches on several platforms to increase their visibility on the web. Third party platforms take fees on the final amount and sometimes monthly fees in addition, this can increase the final amount up to 20%. The terms of sale are identical on all platforms.
Will you repair a watch that I already own or that I acquired from someone else ?
No, I don’t service or repair a watch that I didn’t sell. Servicing and repairing a watch can lead to problematic situations because I never now in advance what I will discover when opening a case. If something is broken and if parts are difficult to find it can lead to long delays and important overcosts.
