From the 40’s to the early 70’s, having a swiss chronograph was the goal of many watch enthusiast. But of course, not everyone could spend thousands of from-past-currency to get an Omega, a Longines or Rolex one with an in-house movement. So beside these prestigious brands, many manufacturers used generic chronograph calibres, made by Landeron, Valjoux or Venus.
The Landeron 48 is probably the most common of these calibers, it has been manufactured from the late 30’s till 1970 and has been used by many, many swiss brands, including some famous ones (Baume et Mercier, Wakmann, Titus, Favre Leuba, Doxa…). Simple and reliable, it offers a good level of precision and the replacement parts are easy to find.
We offer at the moment a nice example of it, probably from the first half of the 50’s, housed in a very nice gold plated case, from the brand Eldor Genève. The overall condition of this watch is very good, particularly the gold plating is still very fresh. The black dial is beautiful too. The watch has been serviced and runs very well.
