Everyone knows the Seiko 5 range and I won’t tell you the whole story, you will easily find it on other sites. It’s probably the most diverse range of watches, including dress watches, sports watches, chronographs, diver’s, ladies watches (in the 80’s), military style watches, etc. Some models are quite exotic, even with the moonphase (Yes, Seiko did a 5 with the moonphase).
All have of course these 5 common functions : they display time, day and date, are automatic, water resistant and shock proof.
The early Seiko 5 were really modern for their time, if you wanted similar functions on an European watch, you had to put quite lot of money on the table.
I listed these last days two early models from 1964 with a Seiko Sportsmatic 6619 calibre. I also put online a “Sportsmatic Deluxe”, which is an enhanced version of the “5” with a stainless steel case and a nice fluted bezel.
